Machakhela National Park
Located only 30 km from Batumi city, Machakhela is covered with endemic Kolkhic trees and has diverse fauna. The park area is divided by the river Machakhela and contains 3 hiking routes. Some of the cultural highlights of Machakhela are arch bridges and wine presses. There are more than 190 species of birds, deer and otters.

The nature reserve’s area is 8,732 hectares (or 16,000 football stadiums)

On average 350m altitude, 95% of the park is covered by the forest.
History
The Machakhela National Park was founded in 2014.

For tracks near the border, 5-day prior notice is necessary to get travel permits.

How to Get
Public Transport
You can take a minibus from the Batumi bus station to Chkhutuneti village at 3-4 pm, but you will have to spend the night in the Machakhela area, as there are no buses until the next morning.
Private vehicle
The roads to Machakhela are very well maintained and you can access the park by any vehicle.
Eat and Sleep
There are many guesthouses that will be happy to serve you some of the most delicious food you’ve ever tasted. Be sure to visit the villages of Zeda Chkhutuneti and Kveda Chkhutuneti, as well as Acharisagmarti.
Water is plentiful in the Machakhela area, but we still recommend bringing your own bottled water from Batumi.
There are many guesthouses around the Machakhela National Park, and you may need to stay at least one night to explore the park properly.
What to Do
Hiking
There are 3 hiking trails inside the Machakhela National Park, although they are more hiking trails integrated with dirt roads, but you’ll rarely see a car, so it’s good enough. See the map at the top of the page for more details.
Cycling & Mountain Biking
The same routes mentioned for hiking can be used for mountain biking, as the roads are wide enough even for an off-road 4wd vehicle.
