Georgia, is a country in the Caucasus region. Situated at the juncture of Western Asia and Eastern Europe it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the east by Azerbaijan. Georgia covers an area of 69,875 square kilometres .

With its favourable geographic location Georgia has always been a connecting link between Europe and Asia, traversed by many routes including the famous Silk Road. The traditions of the East and West meet in in this country to form a culture unlike any other in the world.

Georgia is assumedbe a land of endless wonders, unspoilt by modern tourism and still retaining its authentic character. The 1,7- million-year-old skull represents the oldest evidence of human habitation in Europe, estimating the fact of – Georgia being the homeland of the first European.

Language & Script: Georgia’s original and highly developed culture is proved by its unique language and script. Spoken by about 5 million people worldwide, Georgian language has an ancient literary tradition. Georgian alphabet was created in the 3rd century BC and is one of the only 14 existing scripts in the world. Earliest Georgian inscriptions are found in a church near Bethlehem (AD 430) and in Bolnisi Sioni church (AD 495) in the South-East of Georgia. The earliest Georgian novel also dates to the 5th century AD.

The Georgian Cuisine: The cuisine of Georgia stands out throughout the world with traditional, delicious dishes, such us: “khachapuri”, khinkali, mtsvadi etc. As for our wine, it is a national asset attracting numerous tourists from all over the world. The country’s rich history of this heavenly drink spans thousands of years. According to archeological researches, the earliest known wine production took place in Georgia around 7,000 BC. Georgia is the homeland of more than 500 kinds of endemic grapes. We produce multiple varieties of high quality wine. For us, wine is not just a drink. It represents our national spirit and is an official symbol of Georgian hospitality.It is also believed that the word “wine” is of Georgian origin (“gvino” in Georgian).

The Georgian Culture: The Georgian singing and dancing culture is also rich in it’s history and variety. The national performing style and traditions have been passing from generation to generation for more than 1,500 years. Georgian folklore has preserved ritual songs and dances of both pagan and Christian epochs. In 2001 UNESCO recognized our national songs as a masterpiece of oral immaterial heritage.

  • Climate: In West Georgia the dominant subtropical climate features high humidity and heavy precipitation, while East Georgia has a more continental and drier climate. The alpine zone begins at about 2,100 metres; above 3,600 metres snow and ice are present year-round. The average summer temperatures range from 200C to 240C, average winter temperatures range from 20C to 40C.
